【摘要】:Masonryunitsandmasonryspecimensaresometimesremovedaspartofanassessmentoftheconditionofmasonryconstruction.Thisdocumentisintendedtostandardizethepreparationofsuchunitsandmasonryspecimensforcompressiveandflexuralbondstrengthtesting.Note18212;Masonryspecimensremovedfromexistingmasonryconstruction(singlewythe,multi-wytheorportionsthereof)willsometimescontainmortar,grout,reinforcement,oraccessorymaterials.Thispracticeprovidesinformationpertainingtotheremovalofhardenedmortar,cleaning,andotherspecialpreparationrequiredpriortocompressiveandflexuralbondstrengthtestingofamanufacturedmasonryunitormasonryspecimenthathasbeenremovedfromusage.Thispracticedoesnotaddresstestproceduresortheuseoftestresultsconductedonremovedspecimens.Thispracticedoesnotdeterminewhetherremovedmasonrymaterialsmetoriginalspecificationrequirements.Note28212;Compressiveandflexuralbondstrengthtestresultsofmasonryunitsandmasonryspecimensextractedfromthefieldareexpectedtovaryfromandwilllikelybelessthantestresultsofmasonryunitsthathavenotbeenplacedinserviceormasonryprismsthathavebeenconstructedwithinacontrolledenvironment.Comparisonofresultsoftestsconductedonspecimensremovedfromservicetothoseofmasonryunitspriortouseorofconstructedprismsisdifficult.Considerablejudgmentistypicallyrequiredfortheselectionandpreparationofspecimensremovedfromservice.1.1Thepurposeofthispracticeistostandardizethepreparationofmanufacturedmasonryunitsandmasonryspecimensextractedfromthefieldforcompressiveandflexuralbondstrengthtestinginalaboratoryenvironment.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesandtodeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
