【摘要】:Thesetestmethodscoverfourproceduresformeasuringtheconsistencyoflubricatinggreasesbythepenetrationofaconeofspecifieddimensions,mass,andfinish.Thepenetrationismeasuredintenthsofamillimetre.Theproceduresforunworked,worked,andprolongedworkedpenetrationareapplicabletogreaseshavingpenetrationsbetween85and475,thatis,togreaseswithconsistencynumbersbetweenNLGI6andNLGI000.Anundisturbedpenetrationtest,describedinAppendixX1,issimilartotheunworkedpenetrationtest.Theblockpenetrationprocedureisapplicabletogreasesthataresufficientlyhardtoholdtheirshape.Suchgreasesusuallyhavepenetrationsbeloweighty-fivetenthsofamillimetre.Noneofthefourproceduresisconsideredsuitableforthemeasurementoftheconsistencyofpetrolatumsbypenetration.TestMethodD937shouldbeusedforsuchproducts.Thedimensionsoftheequipmentdescribedinthesetestmethodsaregivenininchesandfractionsofaninch.Theseunitswereretainedbecauseavastbodyofdatahasbeenobtainedusingequipmentwiththedimensionsshown.Metricequivalencytablesareprovidedwitheachfigure.TemperaturesandotherdimensionsaregiveninthepreferredSIunits;thevaluesshowninparenthesesareprovidedforinformation.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
